Before recording your interview

Congratulations on being invited to complete a video interview! This guide will walk you through everything you need to know before recording and submitting your interview responses.

Getting Started

You'll receive an email invitation with a unique link to access your video interview. Click this link whenever you're ready to begin. We recommend finding a quiet, well-lit space and testing your equipment before you start recording.

How should I prepare for my video interview?

Taking a few minutes to prepare will help you present your best self. Here's what we recommend:

  • Check your internet connection: Run the automatic network test before you start. Aim for an "Acceptable" or "Excellent" result to ensure smooth recording.
  • Do a practice run: Use the practice feature to test your camera and microphone. This helps you get comfortable with the format and ensures everything is working properly.
  • Set up in the right space: Choose a quiet, well-lit location where you won't be disturbed. Good lighting on your face makes a big difference in video quality.
  • Position your microphone correctly: Keep it at a comfortable distance - too close can cause audio distortion, too far may make you sound faint.
  • Dress professionally: Even though you're at home, dress as you would for an in-person interview. Make sure your background is tidy and distraction-free.
  • Frame yourself well: Position your camera at eye level with your face and shoulders clearly visible in the frame.

Remember, you can pause between questions and review your recordings before submitting, so take your time and do your best!

Can I practice before recording my actual interview?

Absolutely! We encourage you to practice as much as you'd like before recording your official responses. Your practice answers won't be submitted or shared with anyone.

To start a practice session:

  1. Click the video interview link from your email invitation.
  2. Select the option to try a practice session.
  3. Test your camera, microphone, internet connection, and recording quality.
  4. Practice answering sample questions to get comfortable with the format.

Take your time and practice until you feel confident!

Can I pause my interview and continue later?

Yes, you can take breaks and complete your interview over multiple sessions if needed. Here's how it works:

  • Finish recording any question you've started before pausing.
  • Exit the interview when you're ready for a break.
  • Use the same email link to return and continue where you left off.
  • Your completed recordings are saved automatically - no need to re-record answered questions.

Important: Make sure you complete your interview before the deadline specified in your invitation email.

Understanding Questions and Meanings

What is "think time"?

Think time is the preparation time given before recording begins. It works in two ways:

  • Set think time: Recording will start automatically after the specified countdown. You'll still be able to see the question while recording.
  • Unlimited think time: You can start recording whenever you're ready by clicking the record button.

Note: Once recording begins, you won't be able to pause it, so make sure you're ready!

How long do I have to answer each question?

Each question has a maximum answer time that determines how long you can record your response. You'll see a timer on your screen showing how much time remains.

The recording will automatically stop when time expires, but you can choose to end your recording early if you've finished your answer.

Can I record multiple takes for each question?

Some questions may allow you to record multiple takes. Here's what you need to know:

  • Each take should be a complete answer to the question.
  • You cannot record over, combine, or delete individual takes.
  • If multiple takes are available, you'll choose your best one during the review stage.
  • The employer will only see the final take you select to submit.

Give each take your best effort - treat every recording as if it's the one you'll submit!

Reviewing and Submitting

When is my video interview due?

Your submission deadline is included in your email invitation and displayed on the interview main page. You'll need to complete and submit all your responses by the end of that date.

Important: You won't be able to record or submit answers after the deadline passes. If you've missed the deadline, we recommend contacting the employer directly to explain your situation.

How do I review my recordings before submitting?

After recording all your responses, you'll have the opportunity to review your work before submission:

  1. Navigate to the review page to watch your recordings.
  2. If you recorded multiple takes for any question, select the best one to submit.
  3. You can use any remaining unused takes if available.
  4. Once you're satisfied, submit your interview to the employer.

Take your time during the review process - this is your last chance to make changes before the employer sees your responses.

What happens after I submit my interview?

Once you submit your video interview, you'll receive an email confirmation that your responses have been forwarded to the employer. This confirms that your interview has been successfully delivered.

The employer will review your responses and contact you regarding next steps in their hiring process.

My internet is cutting in and out, what should I do?
We reccomend waiting funtil you have a strong internet connection so that you are not interrupted mid-interview.

Tips for Success

  • Test your equipment: Use the practice session to ensure your camera, microphone, and internet connection are working properly.
  • Choose a good location: Find a quiet, well-lit space with a neutral background.
  • Dress professionally: Wear what you would wear to an in-person interview.
  • Make eye contact: Look at the camera, not at yourself on screen.
  • Take your time: Use the full think time to organise your thoughts before recording.
  • Stay positive: If multiple takes are allowed, don't be discouraged - use each attempt to improve your answer.
  • Submit on time: Complete your interview well before the deadline to avoid any technical issues.

Need help? If you experience technical difficulties or have questions about the video interview process, contact the employer who sent you the invitation. They'll be able to assist you or provide an extension if needed.
