How to respond to a hirer

The messaging feature on EH Jobs is your direct line to potential employers. When a hirer reaches out to you, your response can set the tone for a successful interaction.

Step 1: Respond Promptly

Be Timely

Employers appreciate candidates who respond quickly. Aim to reply within 24 hours of receiving a message to show that you are organised and serious about the opportunity.

Set Notifications

Make sure your notification settings are on so you don’t miss any messages.

Step 2: Start with a Professional Greeting

Use the Hirer’s Name for a friendly and professional touch.

If the message includes the hirer’s name, start your reply with “Hello [Name]” or “Hi [Name].”

Thank the hirer for reaching out.

For example: “Thank you for contacting me about this opportunity. I’m excited to learn more.”

Step 3: Address Their Questions or Comments

Be Clear and Concise

If the hirer has asked specific questions, answer them directly and in detail. Make sure your message is easy to read.

Highlight Your Fit for the Role

Use your response to reinforce why you are a strong candidate. For example: “I’ve had experience with [specific skill] in my previous role, and I’m confident it will help me excel in this position.”

Step 4: Ask Relevant Questions

Show Interest

Asking thoughtful questions about the role or company demonstrates enthusiasm. For example: “Could you share more about the day-to-day responsibilities of this position?”

Stay Focused

Keep your questions professional and relevant to the job or hiring process.

Step 5: End with Enthusiasm

Express Your Interest

For example, close your message with a statement of interest in the role: “I’m really excited about the possibility of contributing to your team.”

Offer to Provide More Information

Let the hirer know you’re available if they need additional details. For example: “Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you would like further information about my experience.”

Tips for Success

  • Proofread Your Message: Double-check for spelling or grammatical errors before sending. A polished message reflects well on you.
  • Maintain a Positive Tone: Stay polite and upbeat throughout your conversation.
  • Be Yourself: While staying professional, let your personality shine through to make a genuine connection.
